Prodigy Shiraz
Wine
Katnook Estate Prodigy Shiraz is made with small parcels of premium Shiraz from estate vineyards that consistently produce fruit with depth of flavour, colour and tannin.
The 2M2 Vineyard, named because there are two metres separating each vine and vine row, is often tapped for this wine. The shallow terra rossa soils of its eastern rows usually deliver the best grapes.
Among Katnook Estate's leading wines, it is only produced in vintages where superior quality is achieved, and only in limited quantities. Its first release, the 1997 vintage, won the coveted Jimmy Watson Memorial trophy.
Handcrafted, the wine is made with meticulous attention to detail. It sees extended oak maturation, typically in small 225 litre American and French oak barrels. A significant portion of the oak used is new.
Deep plum red, Katnook Estate Prodigy Shiraz has a complex array of fruits flavours and spicy oak. Fine tannins leave a lingering finish. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
